It is being informed by the United States Geological Survey that an earthquake of 3.33 magnitude shook parts of the Midlands at exactly 3 o’clock in the afternoon

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) stated that the earthquake was in the same area as it was reported on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

"

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the 3.5-magnitude quake was centered in Elgin, SC at around 2:45 p.m. At a depth of about a mile from the surface.

"

The 29 June 2022 quake is the deadliest earthquake ever recorded last year, surpassing the 3.4-magnitude quake that occurred on Sunday, 26 June 2022.

"

Previously, the SCDNR had tracked the May 9, 2022 magnitude 3.25 earthquake and the December 27, 2021, 3.3 magnitude earthquake as the strongest earthquakes in the area east of Elgin.

The USGS said in its report that the quake was felt throughout the state in Aiken and Charlotte, NC and farther afield.

"

An earthquake of magnitude 2.06 was felt at around 2:57 pm. Near Elgin.
